Online Boat Exam

Canadian boaters must carry a Pleasure Craft Operator Card* at all times when operating any motorized boat in Canada.

The most convenient way to get your Pleasure Craft Operator Card, also known as a boating license card, is to the take the Online Boat Exam with a Transport Canada accredited provider such as BOATsmart!® Canada.

To complete the Online Boating License Exam you are no longer required to have a supervisor, but you must follow the following boat test regulations:

  1. Complete the three-hour progressive BOATsmart!® Canada Safe Boating Study Guide.
  2. Pass the Practice Exam quizzes at the end of each module of the Safe Boating Study Guide.
  3. Take the Final Boat Exam Online.
  4. Once you've successfully passed the online boating exam you may print a temporary boating license immediately and your official BOATsmart!® Canada boating license card will be mailed to you within 4-6 weeks.
